The major agro-industrial project that promises to transform the economy of the Volta Region, Adaklu in Ghana, and five other regions in Ghana has been officially approved. The initiative, promoted by the BBIS Cyclos group in collaboration with GGR Holding and Delovely Ltd, received formal approval from the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.
An Investment for National Growth
The project envisages an initial investment of €350 million with a forecast growth of 20% after the first year of operation. The strategic objective is to cover all sixteen regions of Ghana with agricultural projects that directly feed the new production hubs.
The Project's Pillars: Innovation and Sustainability
The operation focuses on the controlled organic cultivation and industrial processing of tomatoes and peanuts. Here are the main technical details:
- Area and Location: Approximately 5,200 hectares have been identified in the Volta Region (between the cities of Asikuma and Tsito) for crops and nurseries.
- Integrated Production: The complete cycle includes land acquisition, organic cultivation, industrial processing, and packaging of products such as tomato puree, tomato paste, and peanut oil.
- Logistics Efficiency: While cultivation will take place in the Lake Volta area, the processing plant will be built in the Tema area, to optimize sea shipments of finished products.
- Social and Employment Impact
Under the leadership of CEO Mr. Daniele Brazzi and based on the project idea of Mr. Giuseppe Maria Ardizzone, the initiative aims to counter the rural exodus to the capital: - Decent Work: The project will guarantee monthly wages to local families involved in the supply chain.
- Training: A one-month training period is planned for all staff, from agronomists to agricultural vehicle drivers.
- Inclusion: Families already living on the affected land will have the opportunity to be integrated into the new production network.
- Numbers and Technology
The scale of the operation is important: - Approximately 300 million tomato plants and 1.5 billion peanut plants will be planted annually.
- Thanks to crop rotation and the favorable climate, two annual harvests of each type of product will be guaranteed, ensuring year-round operation at the factories.
- The estimated yield is 80 tons of product per hectare for each harvest.
